 Valances can be used as a stand-alone window treatment or paired with draperies to top-off, finish, or highlight your windows. Valances come in many styles from swag and scarf valances, to pleated, balloon, continental, embassy, halo, and more. Valances can be a low cost addition that blends in with your draperies to cover the mounting hardware of a regular curtain or an impressive design piece which transforms your window treatments, casting an inviting glow upon your room’s décor.
Valances can trick the eye, making a window appear larger than it actually is. In addition, they can provide additional insulation value by preventing cold or hot air from entering or escaping from the top of your window treatments.
Most valances require additional mounting hardware and are generally used as a stationary piece above the window. Scarf valances can be draped over a decorative knob or your existing rod, whereas other styles of valances such as continental and balloon are displayed best when bunched over a flat stationary rod mounted over the curtain rod. Pinch pleated valances can use with a single or double mounted standard kirsch rod.
